I’ve avoided kernal anti-cheat basically forever on principle. On the plus side, there is talk about Microsoft kicking 3rd parties out of the kernal on windows, stemming from the cloudstrike debacle. If they kick out anti-virus, I can’t imagine that they let game publishers stay. We might actually see the death of kernal anti-cheat soon.

On a side-note, it’s a really sad state that so much of the world runs on computers but the majority of people don’t know the first thing about using them. It has led us to so many bad places today that I really didn’t expect when I was a teen…

They are not the same thing, because of the power dynamics at play, and I think most people in either a linux forum or PC gaming forum would react negatively if the mods banned people for one comment made while not being the “target demographic”.

Also, someone can use both linux and windows. Someone can play PC games and console. They might have valuable insight having experiences from both.

That doesn’t really apply to a women’s only community. (although I am curious what WomensStuff’s stance on Trans people is - I don’t know of the community that much to be honest).

One of the biggest problems is “what is porn?”. Time and again a clear definition eludes us and it comes down to personal perception. What one group of people think is porn is not to a different group. Also something to think and reflect about, why are you okay with a store selling intense and graphic violence, but not sex?

Then we get to the fact that it isn’t Steam calling the shots on this, not really. It is payment processors. The real outrage here is that Steam is not getting to decide what they do and don’t sell, and it isn’t a legal problem either. It is an arbitrary choice by the middle man monopoly. And there is nothing stopping their rules removing your ability to buy GTA or Dishonored next.

I think the backlash would be a lot less if this was truly a Steam decision. There would be people upset still, but I don’t think to the same degree. The massive outrage is that stores all over, including as big as Steam, are being blackmailed into making these changes.

My laptop has an nvidia gpu. It never really worked right on Bazzite, basically could not game unless the igpu could run the game. I switched it over to Garuda (which I had been running on my desktop for a couple of years) and the gpu drivers all just worked. It now plays games just as easily as my desktop. The above comment could basically be exactly my experience, just replace openSUSE Tumbleweed with Garuda. I am unlikely to hop distros because I (luckily) found one that “just works” for me.

Honestly, that is kind of the beauty of Linux to me, and why I hate all of the “distro recommendation” threads. If someone only tries one distro, they might never stay because they got unlucky. I’d love for them all to truly work just as well as any other, like so many posts claim, but it just isn’t the case (out of the box, at least). We all have so many varied experiences that drive those recommendations.

This honestly feels like an “everyone sucks here” situation. It’s obviously bad that the publisher just sacked the 3 founders of a developer and replaced them with a CEO from a developer they just scuttled… But then there is this terrible sell-out deal the devs went for where 1/3 of the sale price of the company was tied up in sales performance with the deadline rapidly approaching so of course they want to put out a shiny new title for people to buy even though they keep having to cut the planned content down to almost nothing. (supposedly, obvi I haven’t played it…)

AND THEN there is what I am calling Schrodinger’s Beta. It is supposedly right now ready for early access release (which means Krafton delaying the game is proof of being shady and avoiding the bonus), but also likely going to flop because they got rid of the founders and now they won’t have the devs to make it any good (making Krafton correct in delaying the EA because it isn’t ready yet…).

This whole thing is a mess of pointing fingers and no one knows what’s real. Truth of the matter is probably that both sides are right. Dev’s want to push the game out to get the rest of what they feel they are owed, whether the game is ready for EA be damned. Publisher wants to not pay for any of that, downsize the dev team to finish production as cheap as possible just to drop a steaming turd with just enough name recognition to keep their line going up, but not to make enough money they can’t plausible deniability sink another developer. I hope I’m wrong, because I was looking forward to Subnautica 2 (mostly just to have a multiplayer subnautica experience), but the industry has mostly convinced me to assume the worst in everyone.

The majority of people in charge of our education system don’t even have kids in the system… School boards are chock full of retired boomers who moved to OK after their kids were fully grown. And then there are the massive amount of religious nuts… Oklahoma does not offer education and hasn’t for decades. No one what wants to change that can get elected because of aforementioned boomers and religious zealots.

Best suggestion I can give is don’t sleep on staffing agencies. I avoided them for years until I got desperate. I had several job options within a few days. The biggest “con” to PF2 is that it is decidedly not 5e, and people expecting it to work like 5e will have a bad time. AC generally hangs within 1 or 2 points for the entire party at a specific level, same for enemies. It is rarely a good idea to just walk up to the enemy and face tank them. Moving around is big for survivability. Synergy with other party members can be huge too. Sometimes that thing you can do doesn’t sound like a big buff or debuff, but if several party members are doing complementary buffs/debuffs it can turn the tide.

I don’t actually know if it is a Wayland issue - most of those forum posts are like 3 years old… And I have definitely used these same AppImages in the past on Wayland without issue. I think the AppImages are expecting some specific dependency to be installed on my system that is no longer installed due to updates. (which I thought was counter to the entire point of an AppImage? I thought it was supposed to be kinda like Flatpak where it has it’s dependencies in the image? Maybe I just misunderstood AppImage…)

To give you some hope, my Distro switched to Wayland as default a little over a year ago (i think) and I have not been running into problems (outside this AppImage problem, if it is indeed a Wayland issue, which I cannot confirm or deny).

I feel like I am the opposite. If I set it to a specific time, then I feel I have committed to letting the food cook for that entire time and will not stop it early even if I think it looks like it’s done already.
