Heyo! Just another random who’s moving over from centralized social media to the Fediverse. Mastodon wasn’t too bad but I love anything like Reddit!

Games, anime, Japanese, food, and music are my loves. Fanfic beats food tho, I can read for hours instead!

According to the website (and Wikipedia) it’s supposed to sound more like “How-da” with the “how” sounding like you’re gearing up to spit on someone. And then other-non English speaking countries do pronounce the g very distinctly, but they still relatively follow the vowel pronunciation and sound like “Go-dah” as in “Go dad” (but if dad changed to dah)

Basically Americans are the only ones who say Gouda like “Goo-dah”

In the interest of not being bullied by my friends, I’m gonna continue to say it the American way because I don’t wanna be bullied. My Filipino friends still make fun of how I said “Pancit” incorrectly ONE TIME.

  • Tech savvy enough. I do my damnedest to find a YT tutorial or forum post before I throw the towel in and make a help request somewhere. Like I literally will go hours before I finally concede and realize I can’t do something myself, and I act like my honor is forever lost whenever I go to Fedora forums in defeat. There are many out there who won’t even do that at the bare minimum, so you’re doing great. We’re doing great.

  • Ironfox is pretty great for privacy, and tries to not break things, but they do have some configs you really have to dig for and already know about if something breaks.

I had the displeasure of finding out that the loopback and localhost was listed as a blocked domain for extensions, which is why an extension of mine couldn’t connect to an app running on my phone. It was hard to find help for my issue, and I had to get lucky to find a solution for it (literally one person has my issue). Honesty, this extension gets broken every few months due to IronFox configs, due to JavaScript, WASM, SCP, or now this… I almost gave up on IronFox and went to Fennec 😅

  • Okay, just curious, does anyone else have a bug preventing them from using Openkeychain? Whenever I try to confirm a key, it simply gets stuck at the “My Key:” selection drop-down. There’s a 8 year old GitHub issue that was started and it never got solved…

And like, there’s no alternatives for this app are there? It seems Thunderbird defaults to them.

EDIT: I’ve been trying to create a keypair from Open keychain and simply export the pair to my laptop to use it there but any key it generates is unable to be imported by both gpg and Thunderbird. It seems I’m not the only one having this issue, meanwhile the project seems to be no longer maintained. What do I do? Give up on using Thunderbird on mobile?

  • FMD (FindMyDevice) - An absolute necessity, especially if you aren’t using Google services.

It allows you to use any device/contact you’ve approved to send commands to enable/disable various settings on your devices, like bluetooth, do not disturb, camera, GPS, etc. via SMS, a FMD server (self-host optional) or from notifications (i.e. use Signal to send commands). So if you’ve simply lost your phone in your house you could make it ring no matter what, or if it got stolen you could lock it, use GPS, or factory reset it entirely.

The dev made it after he lost a phone that didn’t have Find My Device activated.

Of the minor but noticable changes:

    • Bottom icons and text are bigger for some reason on Apple mode. Maybe more readable?
    • Share icon is the “network dots” on Android, but the weird “up-arrow page” icon on Apple. Honestly I’ve never liked that Apple icon, hated Safari cause that icon doesn’t scream “share” to me.

Biggest issue for me? Why the hell does Android mode throw a grey bar at the top unlike the all pitch-black that Apple mode has. It looks clean and smooth on that mode and jarring and ugly on Android mode 😮‍💨

Edit: So I figured it out, if you have “pure black dark” mode enabled, it will apply that to the bars on Apple mode, but not Android mode. Top bar also doesn’t follow the app color scheme, it’s white no matter what, unlike the blue in Apple mode.
