Removed Comment If this is for surveillance, it’s an absolute nothingburger. Your face is *public data*, not something protected by privacy. Period. Your boarding pass is already tracking your location at a specific time, so the photo doesn’t do anything about tracking either. The only practical use for this is quick identity verification. I will be very happy to change my mind if someone can give me a *specific* privacy violation, but no one has said anything except vague murmurs about “tracking”. This is intentional and by design because _it's secure_. Giving you a plethora of restoration options just increases your attack surface. What's the point of 2FA if I can impersonate you, say I lost my 2FA device, and have them reset your account? Now I just have to brute force your password and I'm in. 2FA no longer helps you. Software based 2FA is superior and you can easily take your seed string to multiple 2FA systems. Like if you use Bitwarden as a password solution, you can import your 2FA seed into Bitwarden to have your 2FA TOTP within Bitwarden in addition to your phone or whatever other software you use. This way, if you lose your phone you can still login. There are solutions and ultimately it's up to you to ensure that you have access to your account not because services are mean and want to hurt you, but because you're a big boy. If Google is so _obviously evil and out to get you_ then don't use them. If you do, then that's your own fault, number one. Number two, you sound like some teenager that's yelling at their mommy because they lost their last $20 bill in the laundry. If you're so pissed, then do your own damn laundry... Software based TOTP have plaintext seeds that are portable and you can add in multiple, hell, even hundreds of devices if you want. Why you __choose__ not to do that isn't anyone's fault but your own. That's how I do it. And you could punch me in the dick and steal my phone right now and I could have my Google password changed before you even get back to your house because I'm not a fuckin' idiot. I don't keep all my eggs in one basket, like you do, apparently. Simple fact of the matter is, is that you have all the tools to make this a complete non-issue and actively choose to make it an issue for yourself... I'm not defending 2FA as perfect. It of course has flaws. But the portability of TOTP seeds isn't one of them. Fix yourself before you critique others. by Xanza@lemm.ee
