I’m part of a server where this sort of thing kind of work. There’s occasional shit posting on it from all sorts, but the only ones who do it are the folks who everyone else knows for sure doesn’t really think that way. If you come into the server and immediately start shit posting, you’ll just get banned.

There’s also people on the server who has been there for years and never engaged in certain topics. If one of those suddenly started shitposting, I don’t know exactly what would happen but it wouldn’t fly as well as a racist joke from someone with a good track record of being anti-racist.

Now, you might wonder why someone who’s anti-racist would ever want to do a racist joke. The truth is that, in an ideal world, there should be room for humor in everything. What we have in that server is a small silo where we get the peace of mind of knowing that a racist joke really is nothing but a joke, with no ill feelings behind it. It is liberating to be able to just laugh of something. People aren’t making racist jokes because they are racists, but because it was a joke that fit whatever situation they were in.

And, of course, it’s one in a million. For every joke that would be controversial out of that silo, there are many others that aren’t.
