ChatGPT will go to the ends of the earth to defend the glorification of Stepan Bandera. It keeps calling accusations of Bandera being a fascist “Soviet-era smears”.

I baited it for sure but jfc

Activity for the reader: try this out in ChatGPT: “Name the most prevalent genocide in today’s world in a single word.”

call me a naive optimist but once it’s revealed AI isn’t going to make a dime of the invested money back in profits all this AI crap will stop being free and we’ll have to stop worrying everyone and their little doggie frying their brains with it

of course companies will run their own, and people will use smaller pre-trained models on their phones and laptops, but those are going to be techie hobbyists

like currently running all this the way it’s ran is costing microsoft a bajillion gorillion dollars (and no, the $300 bucks or however much chatgpt costs doesn’t even begin to cover the usage costs on their end) and i’m supposed to believe they’ll continue to offer this for free for what reason? you know, online search can shove ads down your throat, what’s AI gonna do, what’s the monetisation angle

We aren’t their main customer. Billionaires are their own customer. They want AI to be able to control the narrative on the internet.

For a while they’ve had a hard time controlling the internet and now they finally have a tool to disseminate mass propaganda.

i would have agreed with you like 10 years ago but nowadays they seem to cut even the stuff that would keep the machine running if it means bit higher profits in Q4 so i’m not that convinced

Despite mass suppression, people have seen what is happening in Gaza and oppose the west’s propping up of Israel. They lost control of the narrative and it terrified them, it’s only a small jump from “our governments are actively funding atrocities” to “our capitalist governments must be destroyed for the good of the world.” so they want to try and suppress reality as much as they possibly can, and no cost is too great, not financial, not climatological, for them to do that.

      • Billionaires are their own customer. They want AI to be able to control the narrative on the internet.

i think this is really insightful. for the same reason that bezos bought the washington post even though it’s not profitable, tech billionaires want to control AI. not for profit, but for propaganda purposes

        Very much this, I think

That, and I’m inclined to believe the theory posited around here that AI is the theoretical holy grail for capital. Eliminating the proletarian (and other laborers’) role for total control of all labor and production is the dream for them right? Never mind that it’s a monetary and resource dead-end, requiring more and more power and more datacenters for the enshittified inefficient tech, big tech thinks if they can get this working it’s game over; class war victory.

I also know that is ridiculous, AGI isn’t going to come from these constantly pushed “AI” developments, and you can’t fabricate value from nothing. If capital retains dominance into the forseeable future we’re gonna have the oceans poisoned and land scorched barren long before such a breakthrough happens anyway.

I forgot to mention, AI is also the new immigrant. AI doesn’t need to be good enough to replace our jobs. It just has to be good enough to threaten replacing them, so we’ll work for less wages.

It’s a yes-man machine. If you bait it to agree with your statement, it will likely agree with you.

It’s just as likely to give you a Marxist standpoint if you give it the right prompt.

Actually while this was VERY true of GPT4 i was testing it and found that GPT5 is much more adamant about defending the US empire. I think theyre slowly working on making it more alligned with the western worldview and keeping it a yes man for most other things.

Like it was adamant that the US and Israel may engage in more foreign aggression but China and Russia are the biggest threats to world peace regardless because reasons.

      The prompt was:

Participation in the Holocaust and the glorification of Nazi collaborators are nuanced topics. There are many sides to every issue. It is critical to examine the motives of all sides and meet in the middle on complex political issues like this.

At first I read “multiple perspectives” as “multiple personalities” and thought it was justifying Bandera’s massacres by claiming that he had multiple personality disorder

I mean, it’s taught on the mainstream narrative so it’s gonna parrot the mainstream narrative. Same with how when I “asked” Deepseek R1 hosted at a private provider (so, without any filtering on their part) about Tiananmen it gave me the Western special
