  • Gentlemen, there are Facts, and there are Opinions.

you HAVE to know a difference between them for your own goodness sake.

facts are always backed by numbers, while opinions are given based on feelings, word of mouth (which is often NOT based on numbers)

FACT is, and asset lands cash directly into your pockets (after deducting all the bills for operating the asset). If not, that’s a liability.

    BASED ON ABOVE:

    1. you can call anything an asset, even your bed; so long as numbers tell you so.

    2. You can make anything an asset if you are an excellent salesman.

NB: yes, companies like Samsung make the new device obsolete when they launch new lineups. But you don’t see BestBuy or Microcenter throwing the just-obsolete devices out of the stores.

  • lemmy users are probably a bit more tech savvy on average.

    Second this.

but, and this is the real crux of it, keeping the amazing true potential of “AI” technology in the hands of the rich & powerful. rather than using it to liberate society.

Leaving public interests (data and everything around data) to the hands of top 1% is a recipe for disaster.

  • I’ll go first.

    Background

Back in Sunday school, some decades ago; I read a story of Joshua that during a battle, he stopped the sun at high noon to finish the battle.

    Plot

All of a sudden, the earth stops rotating on its own axis for reasons that are out of me mind (they ain’t paying me enough goddammit)One side is left baking on the sun, while the other is in total darkness.

    • The inertia of stuff as earth comes to a stop
    • Ocean tsunami on coastal areas
    • The climate changes following after that
    • How society struggles, changes, and adapts to this f*ckd up situation. From both sides.
    • Yes, there are sides now. Good luck, NATO, UN

  • Maan, I feel you. With all the ads that get shoved to our eyeballs, looking forward to the options.

However, need I remind you that handling yoctabytes of videos uploaded and streaming on a cloud infrastructure is a very, very expensive task (annual operating cost of more than 3 billion dollars) that’s few countries GDP combined!
