I switched to Linux exclusively 2 years ago and I gotta say it’s been pretty awesome. Pretty much everything works without fucking around.
I changed to Linux because it’s better. Windows sucks ass.

I haven’t used it for years, but I thought it was a little inflexible and spooky to have it grant access based on IP addresses. I have static IPs on my LAN, but still. I also remember my system getting real fucky if the nfs share went down for some reason.

We resolve our differences by debating, so go hunt down and arrest people that disagree with me!

I hate that smb is still the standard lan filesharing protocol. I used nfs once and it kinda sucked. I just want smb but without mangled filenames. Basically I hate when I have a substandard experience because of Microsoft.

It honestly still kind of surprises me that Linux people really wanted to download random binaries from non-trusted distributors that contain a copy of every library that software needs to run. wedontdothathere.jpg
JTskulk@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Car-free streets are popping up in cities around the worldEnglish23·8 days agoI always thought this whole “walkable cities” thing was overblown as a car-driving American suburbanite. Then I moved next to a grocery store and about 4 restaurants that I like. I got into the habit of walking to the grocery store a few times a week and it’s honestly so great. I had a 1 hour lunch break and I’d walk to the store with just a small shopping bag and buy a few groceries and something fresh for lunch. I’d walk back home and eat it and still have 10 minutes left over. Sometimes I’d go a week without getting in my car. I really miss it and the exercise. Even re-reading this makes it sound so boring and duh, but you just don’t understand until you live it for a bit. It just feels so good to get off your ass and walk while getting shit done at the same time.

JTskulk@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Gamers have you ever been in a game competition or something similar?English3·8 days agoI played in a UT2004 tournament at SCALE or LinuxWorld back in the day. I got 2nd or third place and won a Sun backpack and some other swag. First place was a whole ass Sun computer. I played a few Starcraft 2 tournaments but I hate competing in it. It’s a lot of waiting, playing on far servers with worse ping, and playing against much better people a lot of the time.
JTskulk@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•App for downsizing MP3s automatically when copying to a phone?English53·8 days ago“Downsizing” an mp3 is what we call transcoding, and it’s bad. An mp3 (or the better ogg vorbis) works (basically) by discarding parts of the audio that you won’t hear. Doing that will discard parts of the mp3 that already has a bunch of parts discarded and this makes it sound bad.
I do something like what you’re looking for, but it’s all through a bunch of custom scripts and crap that I made. I buy flac, encode that to ogg (which sounds better than mp3s at lower bitrates), those oggs get synced to my phone, then later I organize those oggs to my collection.
I think you’ll have to either accept these large mp3s or start a lossless collection.

This was a lot of words just to say “no”.
The Big Bang isn’t necessarily seen as the “beginning” of the universe, it’s really just the idea that if we rewind time, all the galaxies that we see currently see moving away from each other would be in the same location. The universe could be eternal and cyclical; the big bang could just be the beginning of the last cycle.
OP’s question is something I’ve though about myself. It would be so easy for a God talking to a person to just drop one tiny factoid to be verified later. You could say germs exist, you could say the planets orbit the sun, you could mention atoms, disease, almost anything. Instead God told a man to murder his own son to win a bet over nothing with someone he doesn’t even like because “trust me bro”. Jews and Muslims still won’t eat pork because they couldn’t figure out how to safely cook it 2000 years ago.
There is one honorable mention: Hinduism states that the age of the universe is about 4.32 billion years. Today scientists believe that the universe is about 13.79 billion years old.
