Its not the ozon hole (well its a little bit the fault of the ozon hole) but its because due to the eleptical orbit of the earth around the sun the southern hemisphere is closer to the sun in summer than the north hemisphere.

MadPsyentist@lemmy.nzto Games@lemmy.world•The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!English2·2 months agoI loved most of the gallary puzzles. But i still dont get the 8letter one, like i got it but it was all about finding the theme then brute forcing through all 8 letter words about that theme untill 1 worked.
MadPsyentist@lemmy.nzto Games@lemmy.world•The first weekly What Are You Playing? thread!English6·2 months agoBlue prince is a DEEP HOLE. Just solved my fourth sigil. It is really relaxing to go in play one day, put it down for a couple of days ruminating on what you learned, then pick it back up and play 2 more days.
I guess New Zealand isn’t a developed nation. That makes me sad

MadPsyentist@lemmy.nztoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•What were people doing before high fives??English2·4 months agoDue to its tiny arms and non-pentadigit hands the T-Rex would commonly high five with its teeth. This lead to the T-Rex being unfortunately labeld a carnivore.

Its a reference to an old he said she said quote attributed to bill gates from the 1990’s

MadPsyentist@lemmy.nzto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Battery tech really does move fastEnglish3·5 months agoThe moon is roughly 385 megameters away, or 0.4 gigameters!
Do we use MM for megameters and mm for millimeters? i think this might start to get confusing. We should probably clarify a few things before some tradie apprentice builds the galaxy’s largest bookshelf.
MadPsyentist@lemmy.nzto Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada proposes 100% tariffs on Tesla, I have an alternative: open the door to Chinese EVsEnglish5·5 months ago101% this. Driving my mates and I yesterday on a completely packed 4 lane highway. 90% of cars were a single driver, no pasangers.
Even if we exclude tradie vans and utes who ill assume are at least transporting tools and gear, if every one of those vehicles carried 1 other person or chose to bike instead ( Christchurch, New Zealeand, we have good biking infrastructure also a bike path that follows the length of the highway) or even take the bus (public transport is pretty good) we would see an instant 50% reduction in traffic over night.

But…
The saying is “back pedal”, not “back petal”. “Back pedal” as in trying to pedal backwards on a bike. Not “back petal” as in trying to pick flowers at the back of a bush, maybe? Trying to not lie down on a bed of roses? Unsure.
MadPsyentist@lemmy.nzto pics@lemmy.world•My last view yesterday of the US; one-way ticket.English7·7 months ago- Call or go to a Kiwibank, ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac bank branch in any mall in which ever city you land at (probably Auckland but could be Christchurch)
- Supermarket for toiletries. Pharmacy for medicine. Some larger supermarkets have pharmacies in them. Supermarkets are Pac’n’Save, New World, Woolworths, Freash Choice, 4Square. Pharmacies are Unichem, Chemist’s Warehouse, Random mum and pop one off pharmacy
- Both types of deoderant (stick or spray) are readily available. Lynx is typically known as Axe in other parts of the world.
- The Warehouse or Kmart for cheap socks and undies. Farmers for midrange stuff. Boutique stores for high range
- Public health care for emergancy and accute need. GPs are roughly $35 to $70 for a checkup or general appointment
- get an IRD number from the IRD, work out your tax code (its probably ‘M’) then tax is mostly automatically deducted and paid by your employeer
- really!? Sounds like a double tax whamy… Ouch
- join clubs, hiking club, cricket club, soccer club, rugby club. Pubs and drinking are popular too. Most pubs run a quiz once a week ask the announcer about joining a random team
But the reason there is a local bank branch in your neighborhood isn’t for that one business owner nextdoor to deposit their brief case of cash at 11am
Just wait till they hit my homepage with a 200mb react frontend, 9 seperate tracking / analytics scripts and generic shopify scripts on it :P
