  • Yep. It’s like 90% forum nonsense. Not that there aren’t valuable opinions or experts in forums, but it’s much easier for me to look at a conversation as a whole there and make judgements based on that rather than just getting “This is the most said thing on Reddit about this topic”.

A buddy of mine was attempting to use it to organize (not add to, not build) his music studio. It kept suggesting he get better room treatment. He didn’t have it listed because he was only trying to organize his gear. It predicted that because in every studio forum the advice consensus is to spend money on better room treatment before getting a new preamp or whatever. Then it would ask things like “Would you like me to outline how a ribbon mic would help on guitar cabinets?”

He eventually just built his own spreadsheet.

  • Honestly, a lot of us didn’t know better and the media framing made it seem like it was her. I didn’t personally know about his history at the time, and it was a lot harder to find that info before the Internet was widespread. It was known in certain circles but honestly I don’t blame a regular person for not knowing or understanding at the time. A lot of us still only got an hour of news plus whatever late night comedians said.

I do, however, blame pretty much all of the media.

Side note: while I’m glad this shit is coming to light, I miss the days when news didn’t dominate my day. I probably need another break but right now I’m scared shitless I’ll be wandering around not knowing if people who wear blue shirts or something will be put in a concentration camp.

I once purchased floor mats for my specific car brand. Years ago. For months it tried selling me new floor mats for every brand of car in the world. I still occasionally get an email asking if I want floor mats for cars I’ve never owned. Like I’m the mat collector or some shit.

  • So you’re saying that god is no smarter than my old dog who once ate a diaper. Then not very smart at all.

Let’s look at it another way. If I own a dog and it’s getting beat up by another dog, should I stop it? Or if my dog is humping a cat who is obviously not enjoying it, should I stop it? I’m the more powerful being here, with better tools and knowledge of good and evil.

I judge an animal’s behavior by the person who cares for it. If a god claims to watch over and care for humanity, I judge it based on humanity’s actions. If your dog is at the dog park eating smaller dogs, you’re a bad (ineffective, inattentive, or lazy) dog owner, or the dog doesn’t have an owner. If people are raping children and a god claims to be over people, then he’s either too impotent to stop it, too lazy to stop it, doesn’t care enough to stop it, or doesn’t exist. I guess the alternative is “God thinks raping children is fine” if you prefer that.

So now the argument has become “God is like a dog that eats diapers and shits on the floor.” This guy is sounding better and better all the time.

  • This is why I didn’t stay in management. I had the same attitude as you. I didn’t mind working late myself and if someone really wanted to because they had an interesting problem I’d usually let them cut out early Friday or come in late the next day. I got too much shit from other management and C levels about how my team never seemed to be around. I’d ask what was not getting done or what they were expecting that they didn’t get. The answer was always just that they didn’t see the team in the office when other teams were still there. They could have needed something!

I got tired of that shit. One of the reasons that I went into business for myself as a one man company. Now I don’t have to justify anything but my own existence to anyone except who I directly report to. And the guy I directly report to likes the big ass penalty clause in my contract for terminating it early or without notice because accounting can’t get rid of me without taking a hit or giving me time to finish up my projects. I’m judged solely on what I deliver. And I almost always come in ahead of time and with better results than most other teams because I’m not worked like a rented mule.

  • Yeah, that’ll do it!

Honestly, the most surprising part is I was driving at that hour. I work from home so usually I roll out of bed at 745 and start working. If I get in the truck it’s usually late afternoon to pick stuff up from home Depot or haul gear so that’s why I disabled the control for automatically setting the volume. By the time I’m in the truck I’m ready to jam. Except that one day.
