ace_garp@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I learnt to swim! Efficient swimming techniques ?3·3 days agoYes, can be done with a traditional scissor kick, instead of a frog-kick.
Scissor gives less power for me, use whichever one feels more efficient.
ace_garp@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I learnt to swim! Efficient swimming techniques ?4·3 days agoCongratulations on learning to swim.
The best place to learn and perfect your swimming skills is in calm water, with lots of people/lifeguards around. Like a swimming pool or lake.

This swimming stroke advice may only work in calmer seas.
For best efficiency, I find my own modified survival-sidestroke feels the easiest.
Frog kick with your legs, then each arm alternates pulling water from ahead.
The arm that is ‘closer to the water surface’ pulls with a half-stroke from near your chin, back to waist level.
The arm that is ‘far from the water’s surface’ pulls from a long stretch out front, back to waist level.
Alternating these, and doing a mini-glide on each stroke. I think my glide is after the long stroke from out in front to the waist.
Every 10 or so strokes, roll over to switch the arm that is doing the long stroke.

Yes, not encrypted, straight cleartext SMS.
You could possible hack the code to add a strong crypto wrapper to the data stream.
Looks like SMSLoc can remote query the location of a friend, using SMS as a transport.
I have not tried this one.
It appears you can whitelist certain phone numbers to query your location.
DeltaChat(and ArcaneChat client) have a location sharing feature.
May only have a timeframe of 5min-6hours though.

Tree Style Tab does not get enough mention here. It’s a much better way to display a tablist.
XClear and TabMixPlus are up there too.

Supported watches can sync your health, activity, GPS, heart, O2, sleep data to GadgetBridge locally on your phone, instead of sending it online to who knows where.
May need to use the watches app to set it up, but then all happens locally.
Nage the Cenobite.
Have a chat to someone if that is your current mood.

I tried Whisper+ voice-to-text this week.
Uses a downloaded 250MB model from Hugging-Face, and processes voice completely offline.
The accuracy is 100% for known words, so far.
For transcribing texts, messages and diary entries.
* I’d be interested to know if it has a large power drain per use.

ace_garp@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movie did you see too young that still haunts you to this day?2·9 days agoUpdate:
It’s not Eraserhead(Lynch), but I’m pretty sure the movie you were talking about is Videodrome(Cronenberg, 1983).
Equally unsettling film. I only watched Videodrome for the first time, last year at a Sunday double with The Thing.
Videodrome is an 80s TV critique, best to be in the right headspace if you plan on watching it.
