topher@lemm.eeto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is it that in every movie podcast, when they happen to mention actor RALPH Fiennes, always say RAY Fiennes?3·6 months agoSame for composer Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Since the last name starts with a ‘f’ sound, people think it’s ‘Ray Fiennes’ or ‘Ray Vaughan-Williams’. Granted Vaughan-Williams is a very niche example that most people would not have heard of.
I hope I’m not wrong in hyphenating his surname.

There’s a replevin for when debtors won’t comply. It’s like a warrant. I don’t like it any more than the next guy but if we buy cars on finance, the dealer or bank owns the car until we’ve paid our loan off. Hiding it from them is technically stolen property. A lien holder’s legal right to a repo order is a literally a signed tenet of the loan agreement.
Not a problem that needs to be solved with technology, there’s already the long arm of the law. Capitalism! 👍

The papers want to know who’s shirts you wear…
topher@lemm.eeto Android@lemmy.world•Anyone just hates how some apps can disable screenshots?English8·8 months agoYep, same with the-shitty ass Kaiser Permanente app, which itself is just a webview wrapper around the crappy kp.org website. I cannot screenshot my test results, or any other screen within the app, but I can go to the same-ass page in my browser and take my screenshot from the website.
Not op but I found it interesting.
+1 for PipePipe! I love it and it Just Works®. Quick updates too.
It’s pronounced “Worcestershire”.

It was dogshit when it launched, but now I get over 100mbps down. I did have to relocate the wireless modem box they gave me, though. And of course, YMMV, as did mine at launch.

Fuck.English11·11 months agoYeah no. Plaid is one thing but giving access to your bank login to pay an invoice is something quite another. If it’s legit they can accept a card payment, or send you to a PayPal invoice.
I used to subscribe to Linux format! I got the back issues on exactly/Exact Editions too, so for a while I could also view every issue on my android tablet. Those were the days.
I don’t even know if Exactly is still around anymore.
Edit - nope, I was thinking of New Humanist magazine, oops. But I did used to get Linux Format through the door. I remember they used to have rackspace ads on the plastic weather cover
