That’s why I love forum like Lemmy. You can get really deep on single topics that interest you. It’s funny to click on a person though because you can see their odd interests. The best is when someone has porn and normal comments on one account. Really full transparency

dumples@midwest.socialto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•How language is hiding the real internet from youEnglish10·20 hours agoThis is a really interesting thing about these larger websites is that each of us see our own personalized version that others don’t. On TikTok at least this is talked about with stupid names like BookTok, WitchTok, MomTok but its true on everything. The danger is that we think we are seeing the same internet as others and assume we are all in the same bubble. Language is a huge one but the algorithms are driving most of it.
Good choice. Who is he playing and who is Kermit playing? Sancho and Don Quixote are the two tops I think
I would watch this movie in a heart beat.
Would you prefer Kermit or Pablo as Jay Gastby? I am thinking Kermit with Pablo as Nick Carraway. With Miss Piggy as Daisy.
That was my thought. It felt so wasteful to throw something away that works
Ugh. You are so right. I hate the new internet where even pseudo-anonymous things can be traced back. I might have to delete this
dumples@midwest.socialto Technology@beehaw.org•Goodbye, $165,000 Tech Jobs. Student Coders Seek Work at Chipotle.English4·3 days agoIts hard because I wouldn’t envy any new tech job seekers out there. From what I can see there aren’t any entry level jobs in the field that being said I don’t know what degree I would suggest that would have a good future career out of. I went into Data Science 8 years ago because it was going to be the high paying job of the future. I wouldn’t recommend that now because there are no entry level jobs and those that exist are usually filled quickly
Yup. Instead of using ridiculous amount of water, energy and money to throw away a perfectly thing to get a replacement thing.
Exactly. Perfect is the enemy of good. This may not be right but is better than other options. If I can circumvent wasteful and stupid corporate policies which are screwing me, I will do the same back
dumples@midwest.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How did you survive living in a college dorm with another person? What did you bring with yourself?English6·3 days agoIf you need some places to be alone to recharge either while eating or other times during the day. There will be lots of those around but might need to look for them but they are usually in libraries or quiet buildings.
It seems like you love computers, networking, self hosting and other technology related hobbies. You may be afraid to meet new people but the good news if you give yourself the opportunity these hobbies will have lots of people to do these things with. If you are doing anything in that field of study these people will be in your classes and the same thing if you join a group or club in that area. These will be your people and you will have lots in commons. Search out and find them
What classic and public domain story should he star in?
I love eating leeks. They are one of the best in the onion family which is a hard category. I’ve never grown them before but I think I might like to
Only things that you eat the flower or seeds.
I need to get another coffee grinder for spices, herbs and now mushrooms. I love mushrooms in dishes so soaking and throwing them and their liquid in dishes is the plan.
I’m on a search for dried mushrooms at the two Asian grocery stores by my house. I’ve never had them but love mushrooms. Good idea to just have them ready
We use this one from The Woks of Life. Which does have any lobster or mushrooms. Our last batch used a hotter chili pepper and was almost too spicy. That’s kind of how it goes when you can’t read the labels on the dried peppers. Need to take better notes of branda
Star Anise keeps a while so you can keep them as long as you keep them whole.
I made my own star anise tincture with the extras I have. Just fill a jar and top with an alcohol (I use grain alcohol) and let sit for 4-6 weeks and decant the liquor. It’s delicious to add to cocktails
I love this stuff. We make huge batches to keep all year. Haven’t used the serious eats recipe
I have used it only to get closer to another canoe or for docking and undocking. More often the first one
