  • Thank you for making your students do that. I’m sure it made them miserable at the time but I guarantee they are better for it.

In college I had a similar experience with statistics. I had to run a factor analysis by hand start to finish, calculating standard deviations, means, and all the other crap, showing work over 3 pages to get eigenvalues and all that. It sucked, but dammit if I dont have a WAY better appreciation for how it works now than I ever would have otherwise.

  • This is where i see additional problems. Govt or no, Aetna should have been way more diligent in addressing any requests for info, and in providing more than what was explicitly requested they are also committing a HIPAA violation. Any counsel for Aetna should have been well aware of the risk of sending health records out and been very, very specific on what was to be sent and not to avoid a compliance issue.

If i was on Mangione’s legal team I’d be preparing a civil case and HIPAA violation claim against Aetna in addition to seeking removal of the prosecutors involved. (I’m not a lawyer but worked in health insurance for several years managing patient data.)

  • Ditto on libraries. Mine does AWESOME large format printing for next to nothing. I got 5 different sewing patterns printed, which ended up being 20 or so pages of 48"x48" sheets in color and it cost about $30. Priced it at fedex and it was running well over $100 (I think closer to 200 or 300 but I didn’t pay much attention after seeing how much it was at the libraries.

I have a small Canon b/w laserjet at home which has worked well for small projects but the libraries have been a huge help for anything outside standard letter size print jobs.

  • I went there last year! It’s absolutely gorgeous and totally worth the trip. We signed up for a private tour with a driver from Innsbruck and she was fantastic. Before our scheduled tour time, she walked us around the grounds, showed us some off-trail lookout points and we got amazing photos from it. It’s definitely worth spending a day there, and plan on walking around the town after seeing the castle, and leave time to check out one of the local restaurants for pretzels or brats and beer.
