So are you saying that a slur (for Black people, for example) is linguistically “correct by definition” ? And it actually describes members of the demographic?

This hype cycle is insane, and the gross psychology of the hype obscures the real usefulness of LLMs.
If people use [slur] to refer to [demographic] that does not make it correct by definition.
Not really, since “AI” is a pre-existing and MUCH more general term which has been intentionally commandeered by bad actors to mean a particular type of AI.
AI remains a broader field of study.
An AI could be demonstrably 30 times more accurate than a human in diagnosing a cancer on a scan Lemmy would still shit on it because it’s an IA
I think this is an exaggeration.
The LLM shills have made “AI” refer exclusively to LLMs. Honestly the best ad campaign ever.
It’s a response to the overwhelming FOMO “ngmi” shilling on every other platform.

I don’t want to live in a situation where my “need for alone time” is “accommodated.” I need to have my own space. But I also need access to other people.

Sentient Loom@sh.itjust.worksto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does the fediverse really have a civility problem and what can we do about it?English192·26 days agoDo you think the fediverse has a civility problem?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: social media (and humans) have a civility problem. And I wonder how much of it is astroturfed. When Trump was first running for the 2016 election, social media was flooded with racism. You disagreed with one twitter egg, and five more were like “debate me bro” and they had all these stats about race-science, and rhetoric to misconstrue the nature of equality and the value of liberalism. I don’t think it was grassroots. I think it was Steve Bannon’s troll army or some other coordinated institution. Here on Lemmy I keep seeing violent leftist rhetoric, and I also wonder if it’s feds, or reddit’s goons undermining the competition. They’ll post “murder all pigs” or “shoot fascists” and get like a thousand upvotes, and their arguments are belligerent and idiotic, and they pile on you for disagreeing. Feels coordinated. Feels like 2016 honestly.
is there anything we can do about it?
Downvote, report, block. Don’t engage (trying to remember that myself). But I bet they’re still driving people away.

I much prefer the seriousness of the book where they acted like mature adults. And Gandalf was more badass in the books, and Gimli wasn’t just comic relief in the books. But the visuals were amazing in the movie. 10/10 for visuals.
AI remains a broader field of study, an active field of study which tons of people are invested in, and they use AI to refer to the broader field of study in which they’re professionally invested.
No you’re not. And you’re not as smart as you think you are.
It’s not literally everybody, and you know it, and you also know that LLMs are not the entire actual category of AI.
