I found Hexbear because someone made a post on midwest.social right after federation, asking if midwest.social was going to preemptively defederate like lemmy.world, which brought in a bunch of drama and bitching about Hexbear that prompted me to come check it out and then make an account, and it became my lemmyverse main within a week or two.
