Open source projects shouldn’t have “making money” on their priority list. I would donate to Mozilla if I had some guarantee that my money would actually fund Firefox development

There’s a flat screen single player game in active development with features being added like vehicle physics, surface temperatures, NPC AI handling for non standard gravity, etc. And there are half life related strings all through it. HL3? Who knows, but it would explain why they actually acknowledged their two anniversaries…
themusicman@lemmy.worldto science@lemmy.world•Are academics more likely to answer emails from ‘Melissa’ or ‘Rahul’? The answer may not surprise you.8·10 months agoWe also found that, unlike similar US studies, there was no significant bias against female students. In fact, there was some evidence of positive bias, or preference, for female students.
And then, in the caption:
Our study found academics did not discriminate against potential candidates based on gender.
Some mild irony there
But in seriousness, really good to see this quantified, but sadly not a huge surprise

Any other company could offer this scrape protection if they wanted, with roughly the same cost of entry.
You can hate cloudflare all you like, but only a certified dumbass would try to pretend this feature is somehow enabled by their market dominance…

themusicman@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What effect would a stochastic metronome have on its listener?6·1 year agoThis is similar to some popular exercises for improving your internal pulse. E.g. having the metronome drop out for a number of bars while you’re playing.
My prediction:
On its own, it would be hard to derive the underlying pulse. Even a trained musician would take a little while (my guess is 4+ measures). In the context of a song it would probably have little to no effect.
I could probably test this if anyone’s interested

I’m not one of those people, and to be clear I support for-profit companies open sourcing code. Mozilla is a unique case where donations are a tiny fraction of their income and Firefox development is a tiny fraction of their expenses. I just want to donate directly to the parts I care about (Firefox, MDN).
