This list doesn’t make any sense. I don’t understand how Saudi Arabia does not make the top 10 with so many people traveling to make a pilgrimage to Mecca, and how does Hong Kong make the top 10 but China as a whole does not?
Apparently only 2 to 3 million travel to Mecca every year, that number is much lower than the lowest in this list (36.9M).
And for China, after covid the amount of visitors had decreased drastically. In 2024 about 32M people visited China, still lower than the lowest in this list. So it probably isn’t really that much higher in 2025.
Plus there’s limited permits for Haij. It’s not like a free-for-all anyone since Saudi Arabia greatly cracked down on illegal unauthorized Haij pilgrimage facilitators. There’s only so many pilgrims that small city can hold in a small span of time, and 1/4th of Haij pilgrims are domestic.
