Being a PIG? A succulent Medieval pig?

spoiler

Actually animals went on trial a lot in Medieval times, particularly pigs, and most often for murder. Domesticated pigs were apparently a lot more aggressive back then and frequently killed people, often children, and they actually put them on trial for this.

Edited TLDR: sometimes the human deserved the violence from the member of the other species.

Modern society just uses civil law to coerce the animals owner into killing any animal (treated as property under the law) because of lawsuits. If there was a legit trial with public defenders and whatnot, a lot less innocent dogs would get killed.

Witness: Yes your honor, little jimmy kicked the shit out of a passing by pug who then bit him.

Public defender: as you can see it was self defense the dogs part and there was no crime.

Reasonable jury: little jimmy is a little shit, the dog did nothing wrong.

Without trials it goes like this:

Shitty parent: your dog bit my precious angel! Put it down or I’ll sue.

Not once does whether or not the animal was justified get taken into account.

Ignore the dog brain, but most human with non-human under an humans care interactions that would go to trial apply to dogs. Try hard enough and you’ll find a parallel path for llamas or something.
