That was a peak experience when I was 13. I was so dialed in to that game. I still can’t be arsed about any of the non-isomretric fallout games.

Edit: I know I’m missing out with FO:NV, just don’t have time

Yeah, I felt the same way back when 3 was coming out and 2 is my absolute favorite game from my childhood and adolescence. It TOTALLY holds up too btw, as long as you use the restoration patch etc so it can run well on a newer system.

That being said, I URGE you to find the time for NV at some point since it’s in my opinion THE single best game ever and (suitably modded) the most enjoyable experience to this day!

What mods do you use? I need an excuse to play it again

What mods DON’T I use? My modlist is seldom below 3 digits 😄

Some favorites and necessities in no particular order, though:

The Someguy Series quest mods (link is to the master file which in turn links to the mods themselves)

          To-Do List

          Weapon Mods Expanded

No Fall Damage (my ADHD ass has a hard enough time navigating and avoiding those damn cazadors without hills and mountains killing me for being inattentive)

          The Mod Configuration Menu

          Stewie’s Tweaks

          New Vegas Script Extender

          Bag of Holding

          Vegas Strip Markers

          Mikeburnfire’s NPCs and quests

          Karma Perks

There are some pre-organized modpacks that can be installed one-click via Wabbajack (which is what I used when I had Windows, on Linux you’re currently out of luck but the Nexus Mod Manager team is working on supporting it).

Viva New Vegas is one that improves the general UX while sticking to the original as far as possible if memory serves.

Edit: I ALSO URGE you to find the time for New Vegas because it is one of very few games that I keep coming back to every couple of years.

FO:NV is currently on sale on Steam for $4.99, or $7.99 for the Ultimate bundle!

If I eventually have a good enough computer to emulate xbox smoothly, that’ll be one of my first games to get into. I have seen enough of it through Noah Gervais’ Fallout series retrospective to satisfy my curiosity for now.

Why would you need to emulate an xbox to play a PC game?

If it’s to play with a controller, you can do that already, no emulation necessary…

You caught me, I hadn’t checked whether it was on PC. I’ll grab a copy. 😙

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren’t unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don’t rush mod actions. If a case doesn’t need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
