But they are also just as likely to be the ones left when “there was no one left to speak out for me”. That’s literally the point of that famous poem. It’s about watching and doing nothing as Fascism targets each group they don’t belong. It doesn’t start with “first they came for the Liberals” it starts with “first they came for the communist”.

They are potentially allies. But they are also just as likely to be the ones left when “there was no one left to speak out for me”.
