  • Not sure I would say it’s incompetent. There is a reason that ICE is offering signing bonuses for new hires while every major company is laying off it’s workforce and spending all their money on stock buybacks.

This isn’t stupidity. This is absolutely on purpose. They are building their Nazi military and using the threat of homelessness to get as many people as they can to join it.

  • I would say there are definitely some people that care as the industry becomes more and more exploited for its labor. But I have yet to meet a software developer that has connected their pro labor sentiment to real class solidarity.

Most complain about H1 people taking their jobs but blame the H1 people themselves and not the corporation that is exploiting their labor.

I try to explain to them that there is no labor movement in our industry that will be successful without H1 holders being on our side at the negotiating table.

It’s a really hard thing to get through to a lot of people.

  • They are potentially allies. But they are also just as likely to be the ones left when “there was no one left to speak out for me”.

That’s literally the point of that famous poem. It’s about watching and doing nothing as Fascism targets each group they don’t belong.

It doesn’t start with “first they came for the Liberals” it starts with “first they came for the communist”.

  • It’s not a defense of religion. I don’t know why atheist Andy’s have a hard time understanding that THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE RELIGIOUS.

So, instantly alienating religion and religious groups is just giving away a huge part of the population away to fascist propaganda. Religion can be used as a tool of anti fascist for leftist propaganda too though.

If you don’t understand that then you clearly have never spoken with any leftist from the black communities of the South. Religion is a fundamental unifying part of any movement of solidarity there.

  • Partly agree. I would criticize liberals that believe the lie of “voting is the only thing that matters”. They will happily spend the next 4 years saying shit like this because they won’t actually be hurt by fascist policy directly. They can make comments like this and move on with their day.

That would require them to be a part of a minority group being targeted OR be working with activist groups that are helping to protect the targets of ICE.

I’m a white male. I could ride this shit out until the USSR flies their flag over Berlin. But I’m not doing that. (And I was already on a list long before Trump rode the escalator anyway).

But if someone that is a targeted group and/or is actively resisting Fascism says this. Well, it’s probably just them letting off some steam. But, you’re right. I do find this is just liberals saying “America deserves this” as an excuse to not do anything that doesn’t personally hurt them directly.

  • Edit: Sorry, I thought you were the person that I responded to. So I took your comment in that context. I probably don’t really disagree with what you said in isolation. But I’m just leaving it now.

So, you think voting will still matter in 2028? At what point of fascist control will you finally pack up and say “well, shit I guess the only thing I did in Nazi America was go to the polls everytime I could. I was definitely resisting fascism by participating it’s entirely fair voting system”

Like, I can understand building working class solidarity around local elections. But if all you’re doing is electoral politics for the next 3.5 years that’s just mental.

  • Religion is a tool used by Fascist. You don’t defeat Fascism by pretending one of its tools is the true problem. Religion can just as easily be a tool of anti fascist resistance movements. Removing that tool from leftist movements has been a vital flaw of many revolutions.

I am not religious. But saying we should abolish religion will just have the “Ms. Rachel” types of Christians with actual real moral compass (her stance on Gaza obviously being one) caught in crossfire.

There is no working class movement without embracing religion as a tool to form solidarity. Religion is not just all fundamentalist idiots.

  • I work at Microsoft and they just did massive layoffs all of this year. Last round I was layed off. 9000 of us in the last round.

I say this, because, I think people might associate tech jobs and education with being more liberal and pro immigrantion. This is not the case at all. The liberals are being offered fascism as a means to deal with their unemployment and will accept it with open arms as their material conditions decline. Most people I know from my job would absolutely join ICE for the paycheck as the tech sector lays off more and more people.

I’m sure we are seeing this in other industries as well. But just sharing for mine. ICE is going to look like an attractive job for a lot “middle class” Americans to be able to make rent. None of them are having class conflict conversations either. These people have next to no idea of what is going on.

We will not just get the hogs joining ICE. You’re gonna see a lot of liberals start to justify it as their livelihood starts to get connected to it too. This is how fascism works.
