Newsom did the math. He is the only high ranking neoliberal Democrat, who activly fights Trump. It is very obvious that fighting Trump is incredibly popular and also that all of the further left candidates are not going to get funding from billionaires. That puts Newsom into a very strong position to become the next US president, if there is a free and fair election.
I fucking hope he does’t run for president. He’s just a younger Joe Biden. He’s not a neoliberal at ALL.
If anything, he’s just representing the CA vibe here. Points for that, but no more than this.

One of the many reasons that we lose is because we let the politicians who cosplay as “the left” take the votes from actual leftists. I’m glad the Democrats are fighting back on social media, but how about fighting back legislatively and politically when they have the chance?
One of the reasons that we lose, is because they seem unwilling to do that, and the voters have noticed.
I wonder if that’s a chicken or egg deal because I see actual leftists who are too busy arguing amongst themselves to field a candidate or vote in a primary, not to mention actually voting when it matters. Why would Democrats bother to wrangle something together from that? They’re not afraid of the left at all and for good reason.
I don’t understand where this “Leftists don’t vote” meme comes from. Leftists demonstrably vote, when they have leftist candidates to vote for. Mamdani, Sanders, AOC, Sawant, etc all get plenty of votes.
But Democrats keep running center-right candidates that pretend to be lefitsts. I find it telling that, as Democrats keep moving to the right, their approval rate keeps dropping, and they keep getting fewer votes.

I guess I’m glad somebody on the left is finally reciprocating the populist style memeing necessary to contend with trump and current far right politics. “Fighting fire with fire” would feel a lot better though if our flamethrower supported trans rights, among other things.
Trump won twice not just by being a memelord but by leaning fully into the populism necessary for his base. You can’t achieve a ‘left’ version of that by just meeting him at the meme level. The contending policies have to be so popular that they’re obvious.
He’s definitely a milquetoast douche when it comes to trans rights, BUT he also isn’t actively trying to legislate them out of existence and CA has some of the strongest trans legal protections in the country. It’s a low bar to clear, sadly.
Gavin Newsom’s an establishment politician first and anything else second.
He’s vetoed trans protections, sold out unions and appeared on a far right podcast to showcase his anti trans views.
For now he’s an opponent of fascism, but his interests are not the interests of the American people. He’ll gladly sell us out if it benefits his career.
He also has waged a huge war on homeless people while his people become homeless from fires, mudslides, etc. Homelessness is genocide. He is for genocide. He is not a good person and is below the standard for basic human decency. We deserve non-genocidal people.

Gavin literally had Charlie Kirk on his podcast, to tell Charlie that he agrees with him about trans rights. Charlie Kirk. Gavin Newsome should not run for president. There are better democrats who haven’t bonded with a genocidal white supremacist over hatred of queer people.
I absolutely agree with you there. I have a long list of people I prefer. Newsome is in my mind is the choice one step above a republican, and that’s just barely.
I hope we get someone decent through the primary. I detest our system, but until it changes the most moral thing I can do is pick harm reduction. I don’t want to see anyone stripped of their rights. However, I also don’t want to see anyone shipped off to death camps.
I can fight to restore rights to people, I can’t fight to resurrect the dead.

Trans rights and human rights in general are not up for debate, put trans folx rights on the negotiating table and all of human rights will be there too. Whether you realize it or not they will all be there, so do not support anyone who is willing to throw my people under the bus.

I love that we kept the flag from when we were briefly an independent breakaway state. And while the two heads on this flag are a joke about mutated animals in Fallout, in-universe they also symbolize tending to our own with the lowered head and being ready to defend with the raised one.
This flag is so over Amazon. I tried (and succeeded) in getting the CA flag, but these were cheaper and more numerous.
