We should ban computers since they are making mass surveillance easier. /s
Reminder that Lemmy is typically older and older people are usually more conservative about things. Sure, politcially, Lemmy leans left, but technologically, Lemmy is very conservative.
Like for example, you see people on Lemmy say they’ll switch to a dumbphone, but that’s probably even more insecure, and they could’ve just used Lineage OS or something and it would be far more private.
“Anyone I disagree with must be a bot or government agent”
Machines replacing people is not a bad thing if they can actually perform the same or better; the solution to unemployment would be Universal Basic Income.
Lol I didn’t know that the anarchists over at lemmy.dbzer0.com are being corporate apologists. /sarcasm

I tried using analogies to explain that I need antidepressants just like people need medicine for diabetes or blood pressure and my mother said I need just need to wear some necklace to fights the evil spirits and that chemicals are bad blahh blahh I just… 🤦♂️
You can’t fight conservatives with logic, and when there are crazies using mainstream media to amplify their craziness, conspiracy theories and spiritualism seems even more legitimte to them, they think that science and spirialtualisn are on equal footing and each is equally valid. 🤦♂️🤷♂️ (yea I used the facepalm emoji twice in one comment, because emphasis is needed)
P.S. For context, my parents are not your typical white American christians in the deep south that you normally hear about online, if you think its just that stereotypical demographic beliving in weird things; they are agnostic theists (not sure what their “religion” really is btw, they dont visit religious buildings) and we are ethnic Chinese that are living in the US at the moment.
DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.worksOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone here prefer instrumental music over *songs*?4·2 days agoLol I was in primary school at the time and kids at my school (in the US) was keep trying to sing it, I felt so much cringe since they obviously aren’t gonna master speaking Korean out of nowhere so they were probably just butchering the lyrics.
Like the first time you hear it, it was fun, but by the 3rd time, it started to felt a little cringy.
I read it as “world’s most excited cat” and was confused on how someone is supposed to interpret from that face as the cat being “excited” 😅
Or you can reincarnate in Finland 🤷♂️
DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•8 billion people vs. 3000 billionaires: Who would win?3·3 days agoI chose to believe that the working class will eventuall prevail, that people will no longer have nationalism, and work together towards a common future.
It may take years, it may take decades, perhaps even a century, but we will get there. We must get there. Life is too short, life is too miserable. We cannot give up on trying to build a better future.
Because the moment I lose that last bit of hope, I will literally kill myself. So I cannt give up on humanity. I have to have faith that there are good people out there trying to fix problems, because that’s what gives me he motivation to live.
Humans have been living under absolute monarchies, communities have been destroyed by imperialism and colonialism, slavery was rampart, the concept of human rights didnt even exist. But we have come so far, humanity have come so far, a lot of the problems we faced in the past had been fixed or at leased inproved. And yes we eill face a lot more problems in the future, and eventually we will find those solutions just as we did for the past problems; we cannot give up now.
Yes, climate change will destroy so many thing, lives and livelihood, but we must find the strength to perservere. Because life is a miracle, Earth even being capable of sustaining life is a miracle.
I remember there was a kid in class that asked: “If humans mess up the Earth, why don’t we just move to Mars?”, the teacher who’s field is related to environment (can’t remember the exact subject), told the class that, humans can use up all the fossil fuels and melt all polar ice caps, and Earth would still be 100 times more habitable than Mars.
Because no matter how bad it gets, its still still the most habitable planet that we know of.
Do not give up. (I know I’m being a hypocrite since I subconsciously always tell myself to give up, but don’t do that, fight those thoughts)

DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Schools are using AI to spy on students and some are getting arrested for misinterpreted jokes and private conversationsEnglish10·3 days agoIts not a technology issue, its a capitalism issue.
Idealy, people should be able to afford their own devices and just log in via a browser, but capitalism fucks everyone and kids are too poor to have their own laptop and has to use the school-issued one which is obviously managed and surveilled because they can’t have you watching porn on it.
Also, #SaveSnowDays, stop forcing an online meet if its snowing and they cant get to school, just let kids have a day off once in a while.
Idk why, but hearing kids say things can hurt the most. There was a kid that said a racial slur to me (I was also a minor at the time, but I was older), and I momentarily felt like as if my soul left the country.

This is America, that’s what they do. They love overreacting to small problems.
I was arrested for self-defence in a highschool fight, the actual bully who attack me did not get in any sort of trouble. If I didn’t have citizenship, there was a chance that incident could’ve led to my deportation, even tho I was a minor. (USCIS can see all your arrests, including those that did not led to a conviction, or even expunged or pardoned offences, and they could retroactively revoke your legal status if they find out you lied.) But luckily charges were dropped because of couse they don’t have the evidence to prove it and I have a clean record so they didn’t bother prosecuting.
There is probably an alternate timeline somewhere out there in the multiverse where I got deported and had to learn another language that I haven’t spoken for over a decade. Depressing to think about.
(Well that is still technically a possibility, all they have to do is make up some bullshit about “being a spy” and put me in gitmo)
