  • Reminds me of a little annoyance I have with cat and ls. Yeah they technically do different things, one is for files and one is for directories. But so often I just find myself wishing I could use one command for both. Like making cat directory act as ls. Maybe I’m the only one who feels that way.

  • It’s about the experience for me. I’m not sure how to explain it because it’s all subjective. Spice doesn’t really hurt me because I have a high tolerance, but it makes me feel… something? Perhaps it’s just like when other people eat a bit of wasabi? (I know that wasabi and peppers don’t work the same, but it still gives people that “pain” or maybe “kick”.)

  • Hearing about small talk an the checkout never ceases to be bizzare to me. In all the countries I’ve been to, the cashiers only say the sum to pay and then goodbye.

Are cashiers in the United States of America really required to initiate meaningless conversations? I’ve also heard of the occupation of a door greater, which sounds even crazier.

  • In Europe it’s becoming popular to have scanners at the store entrance that you can take and scan your products as you go. Sometimes you can also do it with a phone app instead. Then, at the self-checkout, you just scan one code instead and pay right away. I love this system because it’s quicker and you get to avoid the anxiety of packing your bags too slowly.

  • To me it became easy once I realized that Fusion 360 is not Blender. You’re not sculpting a model. You’re essentially just writing mathematical equations (“constraints” in CAD lingo) that produce the desired 3D object. For example, let’s have a flat circle as a base with diameter x, then we extend it into the third dimension with length y, and so on. Once I realized how it works, it became much clearer to me what to do, because I literally just need to express my goal to the computer et voilà. I’m having a difficult time translating what I mean into words, but perhaps you can remember doing some kinds of geometric constructions in elementary school like a perpendicular line through the middle of another line. That’s exactly what CAD feels like to me.
