grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•8 billion people vs. 3000 billionaires: Who would win?3·18 hours agoNobody is winning, except that demon capital. The billionaires are just losing less.
I do like the way base FF does vertical tabs, though. The only reason I still main that browser for longer web surfing sessions.
If I know exactly where I’m going I use LW, though.
BTW do people really keep the default functionality of LW to clear all login cookies? I know it’s more secure, but kind of a pain to have to sign in to rainwave.cc or whatever every new session.
grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•HR people smiling at you thinking that you are a complete moron2·18 hours agoSame, I couldn’t take it. It’s hard to be in that position without feeling like a traitor.
Actually both times I got laid off my managers took the day off to hide while HR did their wetwork, only reaching out later to gush about how bad they felt.
Kind of cowardly tbh, but I get it—that’s why we aren’t managers.
grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•HR people smiling at you thinking that you are a complete moron13·19 hours agoOh I still got laid off, just later in the day.
I think it messed with their plans to lock me out of everything after the meeting. Must be logistically challenging lining up all those layoff meetings. 🙄
grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you do when homeless folks ask for money?1·19 hours agoI usual walk around with some small cash, change, etc, and definitely give it out as I’m walking until I’m out.
I just keep a mental note of it and skip the next coffee or odd lunch date, so my budget evens ~ out.
I want to stay in my kitchen forever lol.
I’m fortunate to have had a great childhood full of love and community, but I don’t want to be a child, you know? I don’t want to go back to, like, a cocoon.
Maybe I’m reading into some of these comments, or maybe I just have a different nostalgia. Just leaving this comment for anyone else who’s a bit weirded out. 👋
It sounds like you’re comfortable enough to be debt free, but still chasing after something more, despite already having it right there in your backyard.
I don’t think you realize how little money you need in order to have a fulfilling life. You can live in the nice neighbourhood and take a low paying, stable job, be frugal, get good insurance, and enjoy the advantages of your class position.
Pardon me if this comes off as overly prescriptive or nihilistic.

Yeah like where is her degree from? They should be ashamed.
Is it the trolley problem, but you’re the one strapped to the rails instead of at the lever? AKA the veil of ignorance tests?
Really thought the right side showed a waterfall going off the edge at first glance!
I’ve never been jealous of someone’s forearm before!

grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•HR people smiling at you thinking that you are a complete moron9·2 days agoYeah this matches my experience. HR person is always the one to have a bottle of whisky squirreled away for a good time.
I’ve been let go twice. It’s shitty, but I realise they have very little power in a situation like that.
I’ll keep an eye out but I don’t have votes visible, so can only really tell sentiment from comments.
Aside, but I highly recommend hiding vote counts. They’re even more pointless here than they were on redit. They’re meaningless noise on the frontend.
grrgyle@slrpnk.netto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•HR people smiling at you thinking that you are a complete moron39·2 days agoI know a couple hr people personally, and they speak in a kind of coded manner at work. Some of them will legitimately try to help you out, but of course the nature of their profession means they can never be a true ally. Not for long, anyway.
I mean they were right about the internet. The corporations turned most of it into a cluster of competing megamalls that make people anxious while selling them things.
Never mind that even just open a port 443 anywhere in the world will open you up to roving bands of OC scrapers, which feed the next evolution of corp power.
It’s not like a bunch of basement nerds made LLMs and now corps are trying to muscle in (like with the internet). This new technology is theirs, from its R&D to now its aggressive rollout across all sectors of the Internet they control.
I don’t have much hope for the commercial AI or LLM services that are available to most consumers. I think they’re going to enshittify so bad that we’re going to need a new word for it.
I see, I’ve got mine setup similarly now, and yeah this is more appropriate to my usual workflow / security needs.
