Go to piefed.ca/admin/site and save the form. Sounds weird but it might help.

Voyager is doing an API call whenever the inbox is loaded and that API call includes some data from that form and the underlying structure of it all got changed a few weeks ago. Saving the form will flush out the gremlins. If your sidebar text vanishes after saving the form, here it is so you can paste it back in and save a second time:

piefed.ca is running an old version of PieFed, missing some of the latest work we’ve done on the API.

I’m running Libretranslate on my home server, it was very easy to set up and costs me nothing. It seems very lightweight and caches well so if 100 instances all requested translations of the same post it would only translate the first time.

There are no PieFed instances in that list. Maybe because Meta is blocked in the default PieFed robots.txt or maybe PieFed is too obscure.

The robots.txt on Mastodon and Lemmy is basically useless.

The Mbin robots.txt is massive but does not block Meta’s crawler so presumably it is not being kept up to date.

Using a custom crawler, we collect 91,271 posts from 465 communities (Lemmy’s equivalent of subreddits) between August 17, 2019, and April 30, 2022.

Weird that they don’t include more recent posts. I’m guessing they chose that date range because they wanted to focus on the migration of two reddit subs to Lemmy which happened at the end of that time but it seems like there’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then. Even a quick glance at the /communities page shows the popularity of different communities has changed significantly.

PieFed has a “Hide posts in communities with these words in their name” filter for exactly this scenario.

Fascists don’t have policy positions. They just say whatever people need to hear, to gain power.
