Excellent. On my quest to unlock immortality, I won’t bother reading any of those texts.
Divide and conquer?
Haven’t read it…
I was referring to the saying, “divide and conquer”; this guy read those 3,599 books, and you go read other books, so that the two of you together “divide and conquer” the literary world, so to speak, haha.
Ah, and when they meet in heaven they’ll find out that they’re soul mates because of it and will read together forever.
I’ll wait for the movie…
Nah
This isn’t the first time Pelzer’s reading logs have earned him media attention, according to What Dan Read. The website features a copy of a 2006 article by the Columbus Dispatch’s Mike Harden, which details how Pelzer was making his way through roughly 80 books a year. He had recently read James Joyce’s Ulysses, and he wasn’t afraid to tell the journalist what he really thought. “The worst,” he said. “Pure torture.”
It’s gratifying to hear someone felt the same way about Ulysses. One of the few books I just couldn’t finish, even after multiple tries.
i dont understand book logs. what is the purpose?
there is a program i use called logseq for note taking and a lot of the tutorial examples and discussion is about book logs. but like…what are you doing with those notes? no one else is reading it. are you also reviewing movies in text form? i feel like you’d just remember a book if it was good or bad. i donno, someone please fill me in.
I’ve read a lot of books and I’m on the older side. When friends suggest a book to me, sometimes I can’t remember if I’ve read it or not. Then I go on goodreads, search the book, see if I’ve read it, check the notes I put in, and then I can either add it to my list to read or have a conversation about it (assuming my notes jog my memory)
I kept a list of all music I bought in 2021 as a resolution to listen to 52 new albums that year.
It’s just for me. I smile when I see the list and think about which albums stuck with me and which didn’t. It’s not a serious thing, it’s a bit like looking at pictures - if you didn’t see the list, would you remember all 3000+ books?
It’s nice to be reminded of how things made you feel by triggering a memory. That’s how I think of it.
yeah ok, i can see that. kinda like a hobby or challenge to yourself. and no i doubt id remember all 3000 but, perhaps all 3000 arent worth remembering. i do suspect ill remember having read it or not though. although 3k is wild to me as someone who has maybe read closer to 3 than 3k
So that’s a book a week. Sounds about right.
I don’t think I’m at close to 3,600, but I feel like if I did keep a log I’d be somewhere in the low 4 digits. Got at least a hundred+ on the shelf at the moment
If you’re talking about read, I’m working on it!
If you’re talking about the bookshelf though, I gotta get another, mines packed and I’ve started double stacking, plus I’ve build a bit of a backlog I wanna knock out.
