Trump is doing this because of Big Balls in the same way that Israel escalated their genocide because of 10/7: It was just a pretext for them to do something they’ve been planning for longer.

Mayor Bowser treads a diplomatic path in response to Trump’s policing takeover in DC. Catch up here

Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser struck a diplomatic tone during a news conference this afternoon to discuss President Donald Trump’s decision to place the city’s police department under federal control and to deploy the National Guard.

Earlier, three sources told CNN that Bowser and DC Police Chief Pamela Smith did not know of Trump’s move before his announcement this morning.

While she called it “unsettling and unprecedented,” the mayor said she believes the president’s view is “shaped by his Covid-era experience during his first term” when crime spiked while noting that the crime rate has since fallen.

Those who have been appointed by Trump to help implement the executive order will report to the attorney general, Bowser said, adding she has reached out to Pam Bondi to set up a meeting.

What is known about the deployment so far: Troops are not expected to openly carry rifles as they patrol the streets, an Army official told CNN. Bowser said all members of federal law enforcement will “be identifiable by uniform, a badge, a jacket,” when asked about potential confusion with so many different agencies being involved.

What the US Army has said: “There will be about 800 Soldiers activated. During this activation, between 100-200 Soldiers will be supporting law enforcement at any given time,” the Army’s statement said. “Their duties will include an array of tasks from administrative, logistics and physical presence in support of law enforcement.”

Some reactions: DC Police Union Chairman Greggory Pemberton said the group agreed with Trump that “something needs to be done” about crime in DC while the Democratic Mayors Association described the president’s move as a “political charade.”

Shes a disgusting piece of shit.

Instead of building affordable housing shes spending $3 billion of tax payer money to build a stadium for some rich assholes.

She enacted curfews across the city, with harsher curfews in minority problematic areas.

Now she’s kissing the ring of Trump, as a democrat by the way. I hope someone shoots her in the head.

seizing control over the DC police and mobilizing the national guard because a teenager got beat up? is this some pretext to do something else or is he just trying to send a message to… someone?

Well he can only really blame his dumbass supporters who have no idea how power actually works and thought that standing in a government building for long enough would magically make him king. Are we sure he actually knows how to pull off a reichstag fire moment?

he can’t even arrest all the democrats idk what the big idea is

Trump could sign an executive order saying “democrats are a domestic enemy” and ICE can arrest them at any time. Then the GOP justices will make a weird pronouncement that it’s okay for ICE to do that “temporarily” . Of course - they’ll finally rule that it’s the law.

Is there anything that will ever break liberals’ belief in the law as some mystical power that exists outside of politics? Liberals will be on the trains to the camps and they’ll still be furiously filling out appeals forms to appeal their forced labor sentence to the Supreme Court arguing that George Washington wouldn’t have wanted this (he absolutely would’ve wanted it)

                Is there anything…

Nope. I really don’t think there is.

Liberals will be on the trains to the camps and they’ll still be furiously filling out appeals forms…

                That sounds about right.

                -–

The dems have managed to become historically unpopular. It’s kind of amazing. I look forward to them working hard to push those numbers even lower. Next year’s elections might be hilarious. I think the dem machine might actually push center-right candidates in the hopes of grabbing “reasonable” republican voters. Meanwhile - their base is demoralized by this shit and turn out is very low and the dems get hosed.

Have the dems tried calling their base terrorist supporters in a more condescending tone? Kamala should go on CNN and call them worthless cretins, I’m sure that will boost their numbers

like that just emphasizes how strange this act is in context, it’s either unimaginably petty or only makes sense to a cadre of utterly unhinged people. revenge for trump’s birthday sucking???

edit: btw: if this is to preempt protests for something else, these people are such fucking idiots lmao. lets make entirely clear exactly how our command and control network works before we even start

Afaik its nothing but made up bullshit. A maga staffer got beat up cause he is a dork and that indirectly bothered Trump I guess. Its just an excuse to normalize putting jackboots on the ground.

    • I was literally there on a road trip with my partner and their 80 year old has grandparent last month. Most uncomfortable and unsafe feeling moments were just walking by the Whitehouse. We routinely saw young women in their 20s going out for a run after dark, alone, and through the streets that had burnt out streetlights. DC is a relatively clean and safe city, never seen an aggressive homeless person, roving gangs of teens, or anything alarming while there or years ago when I lived there for a time. He’s straight up just made it the fuck up. Big boy was probably trying to get handsy with a 15 year old… Or maybe trying to abduct her for that snuff film for commission group he’s rumored to be a part of.

So what’s the move chat? Is he gonna expand this policy to other cities under the pretext of stopping crime or is this just so he can surround himself with big strong boys?

Trump learned he only has to yell “Emergency!” with no basis in fact and he’s already been able to use the military and now the FBI on American streets. How far he can go and how fast will ultimately be determined by the GOP SCOTUS. And I am not optimistic - to say the least.

Other cities are not run by the federal government, so on it would be hard to do… not that Trump cares about rules, so who knows?
